The platform, walked through
See exactly what you would get — before you pay anything.
Six short steps: your organisation, the models, where it runs, what it costs, the rules you set, and how you leave. Move the sliders, click the charts — every number is a labelled estimate with its source, and every privacy claim says what actually enforces it.
Step 1 · Your organisation
Who is this for?
This shapes the usage presets in the cost estimate. Nothing is stored until you choose to join the founding list at the end.
Step 2 · The catalogue
Five open-weight models, chosen for clean licenses
Appropriately licensed open-weight models only — no restricted community licenses, no terms that create a dependency you can't see. Click a model to make it yours; the cost step follows your choice. Prices are the serving provider's list prices (Together AI, US, captured 6 Aug 2026) and move monthly.
| Model | Best for | Reads at once | Speed tok/s | Input US$/1M | Output US$/1M | License |
|---|
A token is about three-quarters of a word. A million tokens ≈ a 1,500-page document — so a 256k context window reads a ~300-page contract in one pass.
Step 3 · Where it runs
Who can see what — drawn, not asserted
Where your data is processed and what enforces the privacy promise are different things. This is the launch configuration — the honest version of both.
Step 4 · What it costs
The estimate, itemised like a receipt
Move the sliders — the receipt and the chart update. Token prices are the provider's list prices; the seat fee is our planned price, not yet final.
—/month, estimated
Estimate · provider list prices (Together AI, US, 6 Aug 2026) + planned Magpie seat fee (not final). Quoted in AUD with GST before any real signup.
The seat is the Magpie fee — your organisation's workspace, the rules and budgets from step 5, the usage view, support, and the documented exit. For reference, a closed team account is A$28/seat (captured Aug 2026) with none of that.
The surprise: under the planned seat fee, model choice moves the total far less than people expect. The tokens are the smaller part of the bill — the governance plane is the product.
The honest comparison
A standard team account from a closed AI provider (for example, ChatGPT Business at A$28/seat/month, captured Aug 2026) costs about the same — at small scale, sometimes less. Price is not the reason to choose Magpie.
| Standard AI team account | Your Magpie workspace | |
|---|---|---|
| Model choice | One vendor's closed models | Five open-weight models today; switch without rebuilding your workspace |
| The rules | The vendor's admin settings | Your own policy, budgets and allowlists, changed through your accountable process |
| Your data | Processed by the vendor in the US; business data not used for training, per their policy | Processed by Together AI in the US under a zero-retention, no-training policy; AU residency on the roadmap |
| Leaving | Exports are partial; your setup stays with the vendor | Documented, exportable state with a tested migration path — the T2 destination |
At launch, both paths process data in the US under provider policy — that is the T0 row, and we say so on the tin. The difference that compounds is governance and the freedom to move.
Step 5 · Your rules
Governance you set yourself
Flip the switches — this is what governing your own model feels like. A live policy summary builds as you go.
Your policy, in one sentence
Honest boundary: these are rules the model is instructed to follow. A determined user testing limits is a different problem — and we say so rather than selling certainty we can't deliver.
Step 6 · Leaving
The freedom to move is the point
Portability means documented, exportable state and a tested migration path — your models, policies, prompts and organisational knowledge are yours to take. Never instant or automatic; different models and providers may need adaptation and re-evaluation.
The founding list
Help build the first real deployment
We are taking a small number of founding organisations through this exact configuration for real. Join the list and we will write back personally — or just watch as we build in the open. No payment, no commitment.
Status, honestly
- Live This walkthrough, and the founding list.
- Live A local toy-scale demonstration (never used for real sensitive data).
- Roadmap The payable platform: accounts, billing, your workspace.
- Roadmap AU-resident processing; attested (T1) and verifiable (T2) tiers.
